MiniRoos

MiniRoos trials in Perth

MiniRoos is the entry level of the game, so it is open to children who have not been in a team before. This page lists the MiniRoos age listings on Pitchside, which run from U6 to U11, and explains what to check before you sign a child up.

What MiniRoos looks like

MiniRoos is played small sided: fewer players on the field, on smaller pitches and with shorter games than the full sided game. It is grouped by age, and the age groups on this page are U6 to U11.

What matters more than a trial at this age

At this age the useful question is often not which club is strongest, but whether your child will enjoy playing every week. A club close to home, with a coach who is good with beginners, is worth weighing against a longer trip.

What to check before you sign up

These are the answers that change a family's season.

  • Which age group, and which night it trains on
  • Where that age group trains, and where games are played
  • What the club asks a child to bring to the first session
  • What the season fees are, and what they cover
  • Who the contact is if a beginner needs a slower start

If your child has never played

A first session is usually a normal training session rather than a competitive trial. Tell the coach your child is new, arrive a few minutes early, and stay nearby if they are anxious. Clubs run these age groups every season, so a missed intake is rarely the last chance.

Questions

Common questions

Does my child need to have played before to try MiniRoos?

MiniRoos is the entry level of the game, and it is where most children start. Tell the club your child is new when you get in touch, and ask whether the first session is a normal training night or a separate come and try session.

Which age group will my child be in?

Clubs group MiniRoos by birth year, so the age group follows the year your child was born rather than their school year. The club confirms the exact band for the season you are joining.

Do we need boots and shin pads straight away?

Shin pads are part of the playing kit, and boots help on grass. Ask the club what it expects at the first session, because some run a come and try night in ordinary trainers.
